Have you seen copywriters who promise to write “killer headlines that crush the competition” for your alternative health business?
Maybe you’ve attempted to write some yourself, or asked someone on your team to write them. How’s that working for you?
If you’re reading this now, this headline piqued your curiosity enough to get you to keep going… but maybe also gave you a negative feeling.
Where Killer Headlines likely started
Let’s think about these words and how they apply to an alternative health business or natural products company.
First, the idea of “killer headlines” was most likely cooked up by a young male Internet marketing geek pumped with testosterone, working in the middle of the night as he was flooded by blu light from his computer. (This is purely conjecture, as I don’t know who first came up with the term “killer” headlines).
Second, the concept of “crushing the competition” was likely devised to sell Internet marketing systems or products. But now I see this applied to everything from animated videos about mighty superheroes to “crushing it with Kindle.”
Your audience
Now let’s think about your audience. Most natural health companies I work with tell me their target audience is women 35-65. Even if those women are not buying your natural health products for themselves, they are likely the decision makers for family members, which means they are still the target audience for your marketing.
And if you sell products to natural health practitioners, chances are that half or more are women, since many women are drawn to the healing professions.
So let’s take this a step further. Anyone in the health profession wants to help people, not crush or kill them. So the words “crush it” or “killer” will immediately put your readers off.
I know that those words turn me off, big time.
Winning words for natural products companies
Words matter. You have to choose your language carefully if you want to attract the right clients or practitioners to your natural health services or products.
Instead of those angry, aggressive words, why not concentrate on catchy words that pique interest, inspire, engage and delight your readers?
They say you catch more bees with honey than with vinegar, so why not aim for headlines that charm, motivate, empower, bless, and create joy?
Magnetic, catchy headlines can do all these things.
Leave the “killers” and “crushers” to Internet marketing, and head for the persuasive headlines and marketing copy that motivate and activate your readers’ innate curiosity and arouses their desire to heal.
Now those are winning words.
